My husband and I bought our first home four years ago. It was a very cheap house that has served us well as a starter home. But our real dream…has always been to own land and have a little homestead!
Since we are on our debt-free-journey right now, I haven’t been thinking AT ALL about saving for a new house or homestead. We are just focused on paying off debt right now.
Well, that is until last night, when I was scrolling on my phone and saw a reel about a couple who is building a barndominium house on 12 acres. You know, the kind of reel that gets you day dreaming about building your own house maybe someday?
I may have to wait a while to start saving for this dream, but I decided to create a house savings tracker, so I can print it and hang it up in my kitchen!
My plan is to add up our remaining consumer debt, our fully-funded emergency fund, and our downpayment and then list that amount as the goal amount on my home savings tracker. That way, I can see our overall progress towards this goal and use it as a reminder on what we are working towards.
